Wind and Sand
On first sight this may seem nothing but a picture of a sand dune. But look closely and spend a few moments inspecting it: a lot of thought and many artistic techniques went into creating it. One of the things that a photographer always looks for is textures. Textures capture the viewer's eye, make the subjects more vivid, give it a feel and a life. Then, you can also notice the patterns- the painterly winding creases the wind drew in the flat below. Moreover, the shallow depth of field made a blur out of the foreground, creating another layer in the picture. The dimensionality and the perceived depth it has, are largely due to that. And apart from thinking about all that, I also had to make sure the blowing sand didn't get everywhere in my camera (which, off course, it did)...
